Week at Grandma and Grandpa T's -Part 2

So Friday started out like most days...get up feed Luke then go about the rest of the day. The only difference this Friday was a stomach ache I had. I contributed it to the Chipolte dinner we had the night before and didn't think much of it. We had been packing up all morning to head back home. I wanted to feed Luke one last time before we left. Well I couldn't finish feeding him, my stomach started hurting so bad I was crying and could barely move to get up. I yelled for my mom and told her where I was hurting (lower right side) and she said, "I think that's your appendix let me go look online." Sure enough it was and off we were to the hospital.

The drive over was excruciating! I mean I gave birth twice without medicine, but I didn't think I could go on much longer in this pain. Once at the ER I started shaking and couldn't stop. It seemed like it took forever, but I finally got to go back and be seen and get some pain medication. It was instant relief! They wanted to do a cat scan, so more waiting, more pain medication, and more phone calls to family members. Finally they got the cat scan results back and sure enough I needed surgery to remove my appendix.  This was at about 2:00 that afternoon.

At this point Eric was almost there! I was so glad he got there as fast as he did. So the surgery itself was scary enough but I was getting nervous about nursing and all the feedings I had already missed. Luckily Eric stopped at the house and brought all the milk I had pumped so we could give Luke as much breastmilk as possible. Also I was able to see a lactation consultant and start pumping in the hospital!! (Unfortunately my supply dropped quite a bit and we are working on getting that back.)

So finally at about 6:00 that night I was wheeled into the operation room. At 6:30 Eric was told that the surgery was a success. (My surgeon told me it took all of 22 mins. from start to finish!!) I remember small segments of the recovery room, but apparently I was making everyone laugh!

The view from my room!
The rest of the night I rested, as much as I could. Noah came to check on me too!! I was so happy to see him since I hadn't even said goodbye to him that morning because of the pain.

The next morning was pretty quiet. I saw the surgeon and he released me right away. So the rest of the day other than nursing Luke I didn't do much. The pain isn't even that bad. The worst pain is due to the excess air that they use to pump you up during surgery. Apparently it likes to go to your shoulders and stay there for a day or two before working itself out.
Someone missed his daddy while we were gone!
I am so thankful this happened when it did. It wasn't fun not having Eric there the whole time, but since both my parents were around I didn't have to worry about the boys! They once again have saved the day for me!! This week I have family coming into town for a couple of days to help out! I am so blessed to have family close enough to do this.

Oh my goodness, I've been dying to know what happened and how you have been doing. Especially with feeding Luke, I thought of that yesterday and I was worried about it for you! Glad it worked out OK. Hope you are back to normal ASAP!

Well, wasn't that a week to remember. I had a flashback to my appendectomy and sure do agree that giving birth is a whole lot less painful. Glad that you will have help this week so that you can recover. Good luck. See you good as new at the lake next week--I hope:)

Love,
Cher
